World Wetlands Day – 2 February 2019

Wetlands and Climate Change, the theme for 2019

“we are not powerless against climate change, wetlands are a natural solution”.

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 February. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Since 1997, the Ramsar Secretariat has provided outreach materials to help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.

Music, songs, stories and oral traditions, creation myths, religious beliefs, medicinal practices, production systems, artefacts, hunting traditions, private dwellings, and human settlements: the cultural expressions associated with wetlands are countless, in practically all regions of the world, spanning in many cases from prehistory to the present.
