Statement on xenophobia and gender-based violence

  • Published:

SAFCEI stands in solidarity with our sisters and brothers, we stand in unity against all and any forms of violence. As people of faith, we pray and think of all those who have lost loved ones in South Africa and have been affected across the region.

We all can and need to take steps to make sure everyone is welcome and feels safe. As a society, we are many and can make a difference.

We call on our government to do more to condemn these violent acts and take action.

We call on each other not to tolerate discrimination or abuse in any form- from gross violations to everyday prejudice based on religion, race, gender or sexual orientation.

We reach out to others who need support right now. Please consider support these organisations.

NGOs like Consortium for Refugees and Migrants South Africa and People Against Suffering Oppression and Poverty (PASSOP) are doing excellent work with refugees and immigrants.

Excellent work is being done by Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust in Cape Town, and Thuthuzela works with women affected by violence across the country.
