SAFCEI hosted on 14 August a webinar on the Hidden Costs of the “Green Revolution” in Africa and SAFCEI’s Call for Reparations.
This one-hour session unpacked the environmental, social, and ethical harms caused by industrial agriculture in Africa. Driven by AGRA (formerly the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa) and heavily funded by the Gates Foundation, this model has harmed smallholder farmers, degraded ecosystems, and weakened local food systems.

The webinar highlighted the urgent need for reparations for social and ecological damage, and a realignment of funding priorities towards truly sustainable, agroecological farming models.
Since 2021, SAFCEI has been campaigning for the Gates Foundation to stop funding industrial agriculture in Africa. To date, over 300 African faith leaders have signed our open letter, and we are working towards 600 signatures.
