Please join us on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, 5:00 PM (SAST) for our hybrid Annual General Meeting (AGM). We will be sharing highlights and achievements from the past year and celebrating our 20th anniversary. The hybrid AGM will be held in person in Cape Town at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation and online via Zoom.
We are thrilled that this year’s AGM keynote speaker is Cormac Cullinan, director of Cullinan & Associates, founder of the Wild Law Institute, and the 2025 Shackleton Medal recipient for Polar Protection. Cormac will be with us in person for what will be an exciting opportunity to hear about his profound insights into Earth-centred governance and the growing international movement to legally recognise the rights of nature.
Cormac Cullinan is a South African environmental lawyer, author, and co-founder of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN). In 2022, Cormac played a key role in the legal team that successfully blocked oil and gas exploration off South Africa’s West Coast. In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Shackleton Medal for his groundbreaking campaign to have Antarctica recognised as a legal entity in its own right. With over three decades of experience, he has helped draft environmental legislation in more than 20 countries and played a central role in creating the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth.
We look forward to welcoming you all to the SAFCEI hybrid AGM and are excited for the opportunity to reflect together on how faith, ethics, and law can unite in service of environmental justice.
