Join us for a powerful online regional strategy session on Confronting GMOs with Dr. María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, former head of Mexico’s National Council of Humanities, Science and Technology (CONAHCYT).
🗓️ Tuesday, 3 June 2025 🕓 4:00 PM (SAST) / 5:00 PM (EAT) 📍 Via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/wBcHQJl4TIikwFysWqljGg#/registration
The session will be co-hosted by SAFCEI, The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), BIBA Kenya, Biowatch South Africa, TerraVie, and Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB).
In the first half, Dr. Álvarez-Buylla will dive into the scientific research regarding GMO consumption and glyphosate as detailed in the latest trade dispute with the U.S., and why the constitutional decree to ban GM maize was crucial in defending Mexico’s food sovereignty.
The second half will focus on case studies from Africa, and participants will have a chance to share and learn from civil society strategies, legal victories, and farmer-led alternatives from across the continent.
