The Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute (SAFCEI) has made a formal submission opposing Eskom’s application to operate Koeberg Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 beyond its licensed timeframe. The submission raises serious concerns about safety, regulatory oversight, and the long-term environmental and ethical implications of extending the ageing plant’s operation.
SAFCEI calls for greater transparency, public participation, and a shift toward safer, renewable energy alternatives that align with South Africa’s constitutional commitment to environmental protection and intergenerational justice.
