SAFCEI’s Comment on Eskom's Retail Tariff Plan 2025/26 Submission

Read SAFCEI's submission to NERSA on Eskom’s Revised Retail Tariff Plan (RTP).

Eskom has submitted a proposed retail tariff plan (RTP) to NERSA to change the structure of its Standard Tariffs, aiming to align costs with customer usage. However, the RTP introduces changes that will significantly impact low-income households.

SAFCEI’s major concerns include, but are not limited to, the proposed removal of Inclining Block Tariffs (IBT), which currently protect low-usage customers from high price increases, the funding model of electricity provision which is deepening energy poverty, and the future of electricity provision for South Africa.

Here are some resources to support you as you prepare your submission to NERSA:

The deadline for your written submissions is Friday, 17 January 2025

Members of the public and stakeholders who wish to attend or to present their views at the hearing must submit their requests by 16:30 on 20 January 2025.
