The Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute (SAFCEI) believes that people of faith have a moral imperative to speak against issues of climate and eco-justice. SAFCEI is bringing together faith leaders and green champions from across the region to create a platform for common climate and eco-justice action through a series of Faith Leader Environmental Advocacy Training (FLEAT)  workshops.

SAFCEI will be hosting the first workshop for our third cohort of FLEAT Zambia: FLEAT Zambia III. The first workshop will be taking placein Lusaka from 29–31 July 2025, and we are currently accepting applications to join this new training opportunity.

Applications are open to Faith leaders and Green Champions based in Zambia who have not previously attended SAFCEI workshops and training sessions but are actively working in their communities on food, energy, and climate issues and can commit to a series of training workshops.

SAFCEI is seeking a diverse group of Zambian faith leaders with 50% women participants, and a good representation of youth. We kindly request that you share this opportunity widely within Zambia.

What to Expect in the workshop:

  • Engage with and learn from like-minded faith leaders from across Zambia.
  • Explore the harmful impacts of industrial food systems on human nutrition, biodiversity, soil health, animal welfare, and climate adaptation, and explore ways to advocate for change.
  • Develop local action plans to build resilience within your faith community.
  • Expand your knowledge on the benefits of transitioning to agroecology and the need to become resilient to climate-related challenges.
  • Discuss sustainable energy solutions, raise awareness about alternative energy sources beyond biomass, and explore pathways to climate-friendly energy practices.
  • Advocacy training – media skills, regional networking, and messaging to decision-makers.

Everyone who applies will need to attend the entire 3-day workshop.

Selected participants will be expected to attend follow-up workshops. At the follow-up workshop, you will be given an opportunity to share local actions taken after the first workshop.

SAFCEI will provide transportation to the venue and meals to the selected participants. Those who will be travelling daily to the workshop will be expected to arrive no later than 8:00 am for registration each day and depart at 4:30 pm. Venue details will be confirmed.
