SAFCEI AGM 2015 - Save the date

The Southern African Faith Communities Environmental Institute (SAFCEI) invites you to join us in Durban for our AGM on 3rd June.  Find out about SAFCEI's plans and programmes for the coming months.  Join us in listening to Sinegugu Zukulu as he tells of the courageous resilience and resistance of members of the Amadiba community in Pondoland as they continue their opposition to the proposed Wild Coast toll road and the mining of the Xolobeni sands on their traditional lands.

Threats and challenges to the Pondoland Wild Coast: A story of community resistance and resilience:

Sinegugu Zukulu, a member of the Amadiba community and environmental and community educator and activist is our guest speaker. He has been deeply involved in the struggle for eco-justice in Pondoland over many years.  Sinegugu  a member of the Amadiba community, an environmental and community educator and activist is an expert on the medicinal plants of the region. He co-authored the book Medicinal and charm plants of Pondoland.

Hear the latest update on the exposure of SANRAL’s fraudulent forgeries in their attempt to get approval for the building of the Wild Coast toll road and the people’s ongoing concern about the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed road.  As if the proposed toll road was not enough of a concern, the community is also faced with a renewed application by an Australian mining company to exploit the Xolobeni sands on their traditional lands.
